Adam Johnson

Adam Johnson studied piano with Ka Kit Tam at the Royal Northern College of Music, appearing in master classes with Stephen Hough, Joanna MacGregor and Nelson Goerner.

He also won a scholarship to study composition with Dr. Anthony Gilbert, Simon Holt and Elena Firsova and the Edward Hecht Prize was awarded to him for his Second String Quartet which was premiered at the Montepulciano Festival in 1999.

Upon accepting an Honorary Junior Fellowship, Adam went on to further his piano studies with Martin Roscoe.

His interest in composition and contemporary repertoire affords him not only frequent commissions, but also performances of piano music from 20th and 21st century, most recently appearing live on Radio 3 performing Magnus Lindberg's TWINE as part of the BBC Proms/Radio 3 Chamber Music Series. Oliver Knussen described it as 'a performance of extraordinary detail'.

Adam's versatility saw him complete a Masters in Conducting at the RNCM in 2007 and conduct the British Youth Opera in London in 2008.
